SUB: ONLINE CONSUMER REVIEW: PRINCIPLES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR COLLECTION, MODERATION AND PUBLICATION
Dear Member,
This is to inform you that the Department of Consumers Affairs, Government of India is in the process of formalizing standards to regulate ‘Consumer Reviews’ on various online portals and digital platforms. This is in the wake of complaints received by the National Consumer Forum regarding fake, deceptive and paid reviews being posted on various websites / portals / digital platforms.
The Department had held consultations with industry and other stakeholders to gather their feedback and inputs on the subject matter. Post receiving industry inputs and after analysing some international best practices, the Bureau of Indian Standards, under the aegis of Department of Consumer Affairs has formulated a draft of “Online Consumer Review: Principles and Requirements for their Collection, Moderation and Publication” to regulate the online consumer reviews, its hosting / moderation and publication by online websites / portals. The draft is attached for your kind reference and perusal.
You are requested to kindly share your inputs / suggestions on the draft document with FHRAI by Tuesday, 20th September 2022 for onward submission to BIS.
