Subject: Acceptance of Food and Water Testing Reports from Government Recognized Laboratories for the Purpose of Hygiene Rating

Dear Member,

This is to inform you that the Regulatory Compliance Division of FSSAI vide their letter dated 16th March 2021 has decided and allowed that food and water testing reports from government recognized laboratories (other than FSSAI recognized laboratories) can be considered for the purpose of awarding hygiene rating certificate to the eligible food business.

This order of FSSAI will be a great relief to the Food Business Operators of our country that otherwise had to comply with the rule of mandatory testing of water by a FSSAI recognized and NABL notified laboratory which is extravagantly expensive in comparison with any Government recognized laboratory.

A copy of the order dated 16th March 2021 is enclosed for your kind reference.

With best regards,

Jaison Chacko
Secretary General
