Sub: Information Regarding the Challenges on mobility of chefs to Australia under India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA)
Dear Member,
We are writing to you in reference to a communication received from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, seeking FHRAI’s support to identify the bottlenecks in the smooth implementation of the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA).
Under the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) Indian chefs are allowed to live, work, and stay in the island nation. However, according to statistical data, there has been big shortage in the number of chefs traveling from India to Australia. Though this agreement was made to strengthen economic ties between the two countries and unlock opportunities for trade diversification, it hasn’t generated the desired outcome due to certain challenges which is making it impractical for Indian professionals to visit and establish themselves in Australia.
Under these circumstances, we would like to know the insights from industry professionals and members regarding challenges if any with regard to the mobility of chefs to Australia, to enable FHRAI to apprise the Department of Commerce as per their request.
You may share your inputs with Ms. Payal Swami, Assistant Secretary General on her Email ID: asg@fhrai.com
With kind regards,
Jaison Chacko
Secretary General
