Dear Members,
We write to you in reference to multiple complaints received from our member hotels regarding the persistent anti-competitive practices of Oravel Stays Private Limited (OYO). These practices are causing significant market distortion, leading to monopolistic tendencies and adversely impacting our member establishments.
Several hotels have reported various new tactics being employed by OYO that are detrimental to the industry. A few of the commonly cited concerns include:
- Holding money in the secured wallets over and above the “secured deposits”
- Misrepresentation on the websites to straddle the official website of the members
- Bogus booking and distorted/ fraud accounting
- Backend tweaking of data through involuntary access to the hotel system.
- Usage of Un-stamped Agreements
- Non-Settlement of dues by Oyo
FHRAI is currently evaluating these grievances to determine the viability of escalating the matter to the appropriate legal authorities. In this regard, we request all aggrieved members to submit relevant documentary evidence related to the issues listed above—or any other concerns—so they may be formally considered as part of a collective complaint against OYO.
Please send your submissions to legal@fhrai.com by Thursday, 10th April 2025 to enable us to determine the next steps.
With best regards,
Jaison Chacko
Secretary General
