President FHRAI
Sub: Health Ministry Approves Key Reforms in FSSAI Licensing Framework; Licenses to Have Perpetual Validity
Dear Member,
We are happy to inform you that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has approved key reforms in the licensing and registration framework administered by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to simplify compliance and improve the ease of doing business for Food Business Operators (FBOs).
Under the revised framework, FSSAI licences will now have perpetual validity, removing the requirement for periodic renewals and reducing the compliance burden on businesses. In addition, the turnover threshold for FSSAI registration has been increased from ₹12 lakh to ₹1.5 crore, with State licences applicable for turnovers up to ₹50 crore and Central licences for businesses exceeding this limit.
FHRAI has been consistently engaging with FSSAI through representations and consultations advocating regulatory reforms to ease compliance for the hospitality and food service sector and for perpetual validity of the licenses.
